Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Day 2
by Scott Tousignant · Filed Under: Nutrition
Yesterday was a breeze as expected, but today produced some very unexpected results for me. Yesterdays cheat day is followed by a fast day, which frankly scared the crap out of me. Prior to beginning this journey I informed the members of my super spectacular support community that my biggest fear of the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet was the fast day. I feared getting light headed. I feared getting dizzy and passing out. I feared hearing the grumbling of my tummy all day. I was definitely scared.
I am the type of person who needs to eat every 3 hours. It’s become who I am. That’s why I feared this day so much. When I told Angie that I was going to be doing a fast day she said, “Are you nuts! You can’t go more than 3 hours with out food. If you’re in bed all day and lethargic I’m going to kill you!!!” Yep, she told me she would kill me ![]()
Angie knows me well. I have avoided any program that has had a fast day as a component to it because I just didn’t believe I could do it. I thought it was craziness!
I assured Angie that if I felt the slightest bit faint that I would eat something. There was no way that I was going to risk fainting or injuring myself. It’s not worth it. I recommended the very same thing to the members of my super spectacular support community. You have to listen to your body and be smart.
To my surprise, I actually woke up a bit hungry after the cheat day, but that quickly passed as I drank two glasses of water. I then proceeded to do the planned workout for the day from the Xtreme Fat Loss plan. This workout totally kicked my butt! It was John Romaniello’s style of lactic acid training.
There was a point during workout set A where I didn’t think that I would last the entire workout. But I dug deep. I cranked my mp3 player and at that moment the theme song to Rocky came on… that was all that I needed. I began to visualize my abs being the most ripped ever and seeing myself on the beaches of Turks and Caicos enjoying the ocean with Angie and the kids. Something came over me and I gave an even greater effort at a point when I almost gave up. After the workout I realized that I should have two towels handy for my next workout.
Yesterday I mentioned that during our group coaching calls and in our super spectacular support community we discussed modifications for people of various fitness levels. Now I pushed myself hard during this workout. I used a weight that really challenged me. But if you are a beginner you could easily choose a lighter weight and cut the workout in half and still get an absolutely awesome workout!
The workout lasted 50 minutes for me, which is much longer than I’ve have worked out during the past 7 years. I must say, the time flew by and the longer workout was a nice change of pace for me. The variety was fantastic and I definitely learned a couple new exercises to add to my arsenal.
I then continued to drink lots of water and consume some branch chain amino acids (BCAA’s). A couple hours later I performed the 20 minute HIIT cardio session which involved intervals of running hard and walking.
I used to be a very competitive sprinter, but I haven’t run in the past 8 years since my knee surgery that was a result of a hockey injury. I’ve also had to avoid high impact exercise for the past 5 months since I broke my big toe. On top of that I have sports induced asthma, which I developed over the past 5 years thanks to our wonderful environment
I really wanted to follow the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet to a ‘T’ so I thought I would give the running intervals a try. The first interval just about killed me. I was totally sucking wind. I couldn’t believe it. I’m use to doing body weight intervals such as jump squats, burpees, mountain climbers, and mountain jumpers as well as going for daily bike rides. It was immediately obvious to me that my lungs are not used to taking in deep breaths. I’ve actually become a very shallow breather over the past couple years and that’s something that I’m trying to work on.
I seriously thought I was going to have to stop and just walk or do the intervals on my bike, but I decide to push forward and do another interval. The second interval was much easier even though I was running harder. Then I hit my stride. It was like I was back in the day of competitive running and all instinct took over. The remaining 3 intervals felt outstanding and stirred up a boat load of wonderful emotions in me… I CAN RUN AGAIN!!! I felt on top of the world.
I continued to drink lot of water and didn’t feel at all tempted by the brownies on the counter that were left over from Mother’s Day. I was too focused on my goal and feeling absolutely awesome about what I had achieved so far. Remember… today is a fast day. I achieved this without any food in me. Just water and BCAA’s.
On top of that, the program required that we do some moderate cardio for 30 minutes in the evening. I chose to ride my bike which I absolutely love. The wind was intense and I enjoyed the experience as I remained in disbelief that it was 6pm and I hadn’t felt faint at all. I actually didn’t feel hungry at all.
Angie kept asking me how I was feeling throughout the day. “Are you going to faint?” she would ask me. I smiled and told her that I felt great! Which I truly did. She was in as much disbelief as me.
All in all I drank about 16 glasses of water and felt outstanding all day long. I never felt even close to faint. My tummy growled for the first time at 9:30 pm while we were watching the Montreal Canadians beat the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The day that I feared most was actually a breeze. I recalled listening to interviews of other people who had gone through the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet 25 day challenge before. They all had a fear of the fast day as well and they all said it was way easier than they thought. This has opened my mind to the potential of fast days. I’ll be exploring other programs that I have avoided in the past and I’ll be doing some research on the health benefits of fasting as well.
It’s been great to hear the experiences of the members in my super spectacular support community. It seems like we are all in a state of shock from this fast day experience.
One thing is for certain… although this fast day was a breeze, I’m not sure if I could have done it if I wasn’t surround by such amazing people who are all going through this experience together with me. They all totally ROCK and I am grateful for the new friendships that we are forming.
I can’t wait to check in tomorrow and fill you in on what’s in store for Day 3 of the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet.
To achieving your limitless potential,

Scott Tousignant

This is way cool Scott! Who knew not eating could be the source of such fear?! Aren’t you glad you trusted Joel and his program and embraced it?
I often fast on a Saturday before my (grass) hockey games – so much more energy!! i am looking forward to experiencing this program too (am still in the prep phase). Keep up the good work!
Thanks Sharon. Yes I am soooo glad that I trusted Joel and the program. It’s amazing how long I have avoided a fast day and how I had a belief that it was crazy and not a very smart thing to do.
So far, days 1,2 and 3 have gone pretty smoothly. I have done 24 hr water fast before when I bought Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat. I remember the 1st time I had fasted I was also afraid that I would feel dizzy or faint. But the more I kept fasting, the better and easier it got. I would fast once or twice a week, especially after a cheat day. I noticed that on the days I did my 24 hr fast, I would never feel hungry, I felt much stronger in my workouts, had better mental clarity and I felt more at peace. I enjoy my fast days as it is one of the easiest days for me since all I drink is water. Today was my shake day and I feel I did pretty good, but were we supposed to add fruits to our shake because I did, except for the last 2 shakes. I’m more apprehensive of Days 4 and 5 because I don’t know what to eat.
Thanks for sharing your feedback and updates Elsa. Brad’s Eat Stop Eat program was one of those programs that I have avoided because I thought it was crazy and not normal to eat like that. That’s one program that I will follow in the future to see how I do on it.
I really have to explore the benefits of fasting beyond weight loss.
Keep up the great work Elsa. It’s great to have you in our support community.
I found the hardest part of the fast day taking the BCAAs. They’re so huge the capsules and the powder just doesn’t dissolve with water. I didn’t get anywhere near the amount I was supposed to take
Felt dizzy at some point too so ate a piece of fruit. Here’s hoping Sunday (next fast day) will be better!
I agree Karen. By the end of the day I was tired of taking the large capsules. I had to take my time consuming them. I would take 3, wait a few minutes, take another 3, drink water and wait a few minutes, and then take the last 3.
It’s good to hear that we aren’t all super human
You’re the first person that mentioned feeling dizzy on the fast day. Although I wish you didn’t feel dizzy, it’s good to see things from your perspective and you did the right thing by listening to your body and having a piece of fruit.
Keep us posted on your progress.
I have done alot of fasting through Eat Stop Eat too, but fasting for 36 hours on JUST water was more than I’ve ever done. I found that I was REALLY tired the night of my 2nd fast day (cycle 2, day 2). Like I was drugged or had wine or something. I just fell into bed and was in dreamland until my daughter woke me up about 10 minutes later to ask me something, lol. She didn’t think I would be asleep already.
I have found that while I do have enough energy to complete the three workouts (holy cow, THAT is alot for me to get used to, 3 workouts in one day!), my body is begging me to rest rest rest once I’m done. I figure since there *Are* no rest days in this program, I need to get more sleep – so I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier lately.
Fasting, I think, is one of the best revelations anyone can have. It makes you realize that we actually don’t die if we miss a meal, lol! I love it and also the impact on my pocketbook, as well as how much more TIME I have! I think Joel knew this because the next 3 days are a bit more time consuming with food than I was used to.
Cycle 2, day 4 today for me!
I also got a little light-headed, felt a little buzzed on my first Fast day because I didn’t give my cheat day it all. I definitely made it up for it on the last cheat day. I am on day 10(depletion day cycle 2)! Tomorrow I get another cheat day and am looking forward to eating pasta, maybe I’ll head over to the new Italian restaurant that just opened! Plus we have some pastries in the fridge from Sunday (cousin’s birthday) that I haven’t touched (willpower) that I might get into for breakfast! Oh my! Can’t wait and glad to have found another blog!
I’m a little late finding this article, but I loved it
In the BCAA’s – how many grams are in each pill (in the brand Joel suggests) I just want to make sure I am consuming the right amount. He said .3 X your weight. So if you need 8 grams, how many pills is that?
I don’t use the brand that Joel recommends so I’m not sure on the dosage.
If your BCAA’s are 1000mg as mine are, then you would be looking at taking 8 pills.
It’s certainly a lot of BCAA’s and by the end of the day you get pretty darn tired of swallowing them, but it’s better than the god awful taste of the powder.
my concern is the BCAA intake on fast days. I’m 220 lbs. With Joel’s formula I’m supposed to take 66 g of BCAAs on fast days. Spread that evenly 6 times for that day, means I should be consuming 11 g per meal. If I have 1000mg BCAA like yours I would be consuming 11 pills per meal or 66 pills! That’s a lot of pills for one day. Is this accurate?
Yes, those are correct calculations. I was taking 9 grams per meal. It’s the protocol that they recommend, but I believe that you could get away with taking less.
…Although, with all the training and fasting, you may run the risk of losing muscle mass. That’s why the recommend the BCAA’s.
It was indeed hard getting all those capsules down and it sucked if I had to burp and some powder came up.
Currently I take 5 grams of BCAA’s pre-workout and 5 grams post workout.
Hi guys, I’m starting out on this program using the Prograde BCAAs Joel is recommending, and I did the calculations for how many pills to take (seemed harder than it should’ve been). My name should link to the article. Hope that helps. Good luck out there!
Thanks for your calculations Jon.
Well, the program is called Xtreme right
I agree, I think that it’s beyond excessive.
Thank you for sharing tips on how to lose weight. However, I suggest that nobody really do anything too extreme that can risk their health.
