Weight Loss and Your Ultimate Goal of Happiness
by Scott Tousignant · Filed Under: Fat Loss Quickie Motivation
Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to weigh ‘x’ number of pounds? Is it to achieve a certain level of body fat? Is it to look sexy in a dress? Is it to look great on the beach? Is it to have more energy to play with your children or grandchildren? These answers are OK, but the ultimate reason why you want to lose weight is happiness!
How is it that you lose sight of something so simple? You become more concerned with what you see on the scale, how many calories you’ve consumed in a meal, and how many calories that you’ve burned on the treadmill, and less concerned with the one thing that truly matters… your happiness.
The true reason why want to lose weight is happiness. Having limitless energy to play with your children makes you happy. Seeing your sexy body in the mirror makes you happy. Feeling confident showing of your body on the beach makes you happy.
It’s those rewarding feelings that come with achieving your weight loss goal that you are truly aiming for.
But if happiness is your ultimate goal why do you dread the process? Why do I hear you say, “I hate working out”, “I hate jogging”, “I hate dieting”…
Do you even realize that you are associating the process of creating the body that you desire with such a dreadful word ‘hate’? You are associating your weight loss journey with pain rather than pleasure.
No wonder you never stick to your weight loss program. I wouldn’t either if I hated every second of it.
When you achieve your weight loss goal and experience the all the wonderful emotions that come with it you will be happy. But happiness is not defined by a single moment in time. Happiness is the journey.
In addition to my degree in Kinesiology I also took many courses in psychology and philosophy. One of the philosophy courses that I studied in University was on this very topic of happiness and how we can never truly define happiness until the end of our existence.
The point that I want to drive home to you today is that you don’t have to wait until you reach your weight loss goal in order to be happy. You can be happy in this very moment by enjoying the journey and the process of achieving your goal.
I love quick and intense 10 minute workouts using dumbbells and body weight exercises. I love doing HIIT session where I alternate sprinting and walking for 10 minutes. I also love going for 30 minute bike rides along the country side during the spring, summer, and fall months. I love going for early morning brisk walks during the winter months. I even enjoy the moments where I go a little off course because they provide me with the opportunity to learn more about myself and discover why I respond the way I do under times of stress or boredom.
Did you notice how often I use the word ‘love’? I mean that with all sincerity. I truly love these things. When you are performing the activities that you really enjoy you are more likely to stick to the journey for the long term. The key ingredient to a successful fat loss journey is compliance and consistency. Doing the things that you love will certainly make it much easier to comply with your program on a consistent basis.
Many of my colleagues and friends experience great results using kettlebells, doing Pilates, as well as Yoga. I have tried these fitness methods and found that I did not achieve good results at all. The reason… I didn’t enjoy these forms of training at all. I wasn’t enjoying the journey and therefore my compliance and consistency took a major hit. Yet my friends experienced the same feelings of joy and love for those forms of fitness and that is a major reason why they experienced great results.
Do what you love. Don’t let anyone tell you that a certain form of exercise is better than another. The best exercise program is one that you will enjoy, put the most effort into, and stick with on a consistent basis.
I call my program the Fat Loss Quickie Experience because it’s more than just a workout program. It truly is an experience and one that I enjoy. I hope that you will enjoy it as well. The workouts are fast and fun. That’s the way that I like them. If you love spending hours in the gym chances are you will not enjoy the Fat Loss Quickie Experience and I recommend that you stick to longer programs that you enjoy.
There is more to the Fat Loss Quickie Experience than just the workouts. Exercise is just a part of the fat loss journey. I want you to transform your mind as well as your body. I want you to get in-tune with your body and as well as your thoughts. I want to share in this process with you and guide you step by step along the way. I want to share and celebrate each and every small victory that you experience. I want to watch you grow as a person, living to your full potential, and experiencing life the way it was meant to be lived… in happiness.
The focus of the Fat Loss Quickie Experience is happiness. I will constantly be reminding you that happiness is your ultimate goal. I don’t want you to lose sight of this. If you are feeling unhappy with any aspect of your fat loss journey lets talk about how we can get the happiness back.
I’m here for you and 100% committed to your success. I appreciate the feedback that you send my way. I appreciate your thoughts and opinions. I appreciate you. I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. It means the world to me.
Have an absolutely amazing day!
Remember… your ultimate goal is always HAPPINESS!

Nice Scott. It’s true our real motivation comes from how we think we will feel as a result of whatever we are seeking. Most of us aren’t even aware that this is the source of almost every choice we make.
I think the idea of weight loss is painful for most people because no matter how much we want to release that extra fat, we know that consistency and commitment are a part of that journey, and the idea of giving up something that “feels” good to us – that we’ve substituted as a “reward” – is more painful than the idea of acquiring health and fitness is enjoyable.
Unfortunately with weight issues, those rewards have often become food or drink that does not nutritionally support our bodies, or activities (like watching TV) that do not support a healthy lifestyle.
It isn’t until the true reward of optimal health and fitness becomes more important than the transitory “rewards” that we are willing to make the change. Unfortunately for many that only happens when the pain of their current reality becomes massive.
Fortunately, as we progress towards our goal, it becomes easier and more satisfying, making the journey itself a rather joyous event.
I say all this having been overweight for a good portion of my life. Having struggled for years trying to find the balance that would work for me, my body and my lifestyle.
With great good fortune I came across such a program last November, and am now only 20 lbs from my goal (having shed almost 55 lbs) at this point.
Successful changes require awareness, persistence, compassion and support. Leave out any of those factors and it’s much, much more difficult to maintain the change.
I really like that you advocate for people to discover what works for them. I, like you, am not interested in working out in a gym all day. I’m much too busy with other things.
But I do love to dance, and that’s something that’s easy to do – just put on the music and I’m up moving around. And my goodness, it’s SOOOO much more fun now that I’m not carrying around that extra weight!!
Thanks for reminding us all that it’s a journey – every step and every moment. And it’s an opportunity to keep rediscovering every day what inspires us to keep on that journey!!
So true! There has to be a WHY and you have to keep sight of it. You can’t let things distract you. With everyone having so much going on, it’s easy to do that.
Happiness is the ultimate goal though! I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror when I was 230. I couldn’t stand what I was seeing. Now, when I look in the mirror, I don’t stand and criticize. I see a work in progress. And that’s the cool part.
You’ll like this one LOL! At work, one gal had said to me, “Cat your butt is higher”. Well I just started laughing cause I don’t know..I never look. A couple of weeks ago I was doing cable crunches and just happen to catch a glimpse. I was like “wow…ok now I see what she means”. Brought a smile to my face. Those are the moments that you feel so great…Just want them to last forever.
Another great post. Getting in tune with your mind and realizing that happiness is your ultimate goal when it comes to weight loss will keep you on track and off of a yoyo diet.
I just read the “workouts for couples” section and the first thing that caught my eye was the phrase “more love, less fat”. My fiance and I are both traning to get in shape (he used to be a boxer in his 20’s) but with him being 35, almost 36, it discourages him. He doesn’t stick with it, because he owns a small business and he’s tired at the end of the day. I’ve been getting him to run 3 miles in the morning before he goes to work and he’s lost alot of excess weight that has built up over the past few years. HE has a weight bench that he uses at night when he gets home, but he doesn’t stick with it after a week or so. I’ll definitely get him to read up on these articles that will surely change his mind about his age holding him back from his goals!
Your wife and you look super happy together and I don’t know either of you personally but you can tell, you get that vibe that by working out & staying fit together, you’re happy with yourselves, and in turn happy with each other. You both exude confidence and look fabulous and I’m so happy that I (& my fiance) now have a realistic couple, with kids, to look up to! You two aren’t some unrealistic fitness magazine hardbody couple with no kids that spend every waking hour in the gym, know what I mean!
Well, off to my workout and I look forward to both of you guys’ help & knowledge to help the hubby and I acheive our dream bodies!
Jessica, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to add your thoughts and comments throughout our blog today. You’ve really made my day.
Working out with Angie and working with her has definitely created a load of happiness in our relationship. We are absolutely grateful for the life we live, our family, and our friends.
We love what we do and we love connecting with people like you. We don’t hide anything. We pride ourselves on letting people into our lives and keeping it ‘real’.
You’re absolutely correct. Our physiques are definitely realistic for most people to achieve. There’s nothing special about Angie and I and we do enjoy treats on occasion
Thanks again for letting us into your life.
Thanks Scott, every post is awesome here on fatlossquickie.com, and I agree with everything you put out there! But I do disagree with one thing;) “There’s nothing special about Angie & I.”
I beg to differ! (I knew what you meant though;)
In TWO DAYS, (two days!) you 2 have motivated us to get with the program (your program lol) and want to stick with it. That makes you guys special in so many ways. Not just to my fiance and I, but to everyone here that has been lucky enough to come in contact with your website!
Looking forward to getting fit & staying fit,
Jessica
