Does Menopause Make It Harder To Lose Weight?

Before I dive into this topic, I must make it clear that I am by no means an expert in dealing with menopause and I do not have any formal education on the subject matter. However, I do have 12 years of experience as a Certified Fitness Consultant, where 90% of my clients have been women who are either experiencing symptoms of premenopause or were currently going through menopause.

All of these amazing women had the exact same concern and fear about the “inevitable” weight gain that was about to unleash itself on them. These thoughts and concerns would dominate their conversations. It was amazing to hear their stories about how their lifestyle had changed since these thoughts had taken over their life. Many of them began to eat unhealthy foods that they rarely ever ate before. It’s as if, since they believed it was inevitable that they would gain weight, they gave in and decided that they may as well eat junk.

Weight Loss and Your Ultimate Goal of Happiness

Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to weigh ‘x’ number of pounds? Is it to achieve a certain level of body fat? Is it to look sexy in a dress? Is it to look great on the beach? Is it to have more energy to play with your children or grandchildren? These answers are OK, but the ultimate reason why you want to lose weight is happiness!

How is it that you lose sight of something so simple? You become more concerned with what you see on the scale, how many calories you’ve consumed in a meal, and how many calories that you’ve burned on the treadmill, and less concerned with the one thing that truly matters… your happiness.

The true reason why want to lose weight is happiness. Having limitless energy to play with your children makes you happy. Seeing your sexy body in the mirror makes you happy. Feeling confident showing of your body on the beach makes you happy.
