One Of The Best Yet Most Neglected Fat Burning Exercises
by Scott Tousignant · Filed Under: Home Workouts
One of the best exercises that boosts your metabolism, burns fat, and sculpts your body is also the most neglected and rarely performed exercises among recreational fitness enthusiasts. I’m referring to the pull-up of course!
My best educated guess as to why you avoid the pull-up is simply because it’s difficult for you to perform. If you try really hard you may be able to execute one pull-up with proper form. But if you’re like millions of other exercise enthusiasts, even the thought of doing a pull-up is too tough to handle…
…Until now!
This one simple trick will get you well on your way to performing pull-ups, while increasing your confidence in making them a part of your regular workout routines…
How To Improve Pull-Up Strength
Important points from the video:
a) Focus on driving your elbows down and squeezing your back muscles instead of using only your arm strength to lift you up.
b) The weaker you are the more you can use your leg strength to lift your body up off the ground.
c) Progress by using less and less of your leg strength to lift you up. As your strength improves try to perform a single pull-up without using the towel or your leg strength.
Angie and I use an Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar to perform a variety of back exercises including the pull-up. It doesn’t require you to drill any holes into your walls or door frames and it can be set up and taken down in a matter of seconds.
Being able to finally perform a pull-up without assistance has been a huge reason to celebrate for many women and men. It’s like finally reaching the summit of a mountain that once seemed unreachable.
And once you get that first pull-up under your belt the momentum continues pulling you forward all while providing your metabolism with a boost and sculpting your body in a new way.
Keep us posted on your progress and let’s celebrate your first official unassisted pull-up together when it happens.
To achieving your limitless potential,

Hey Scott!
I just want to thank you for this video.
I use the pull up bar (same one!) every
morning and I was wondering how to strengthen
my arm muscles more so I can do a complete set
(I can do 6 pulls up and then need a break)
(also, when I lift up, I don’t bend my knees as you
did, so I guess I’m not doing a full pull up)
but I will try with a towel and can’t wait
Thanks again!! Keep on rocking!
to see how the results will change my normal
pull up routine

Hey Michelle, great to hear from you and way to go on being able to perform 6 pull-ups.
I recommend that you have the towel set up and ready to on your pull-up bar. Perform the 6 pull-ups as you normally would and then use the towel to do an additional 6 to really fatigue those muscle and build the strength.
Be sure to keep me posted on your progress.
Have a Rock’n day!
Cool Scott! I have had enough of my 13yo son taunting me. Now I have a way to help me get there myself. Thanks.
You’re welcome Sharon. I can’t wait to hear you talk about the look on your son’s face when you achieve your goal of doing a complete pull-up.
Keep progressing!

Hey Scott! I just wanted to thank you for this video. I feel I have great back strength however I struggle with wide grip pull ups. I’m excited to try your tips tomorrow when I hit the gym!
hey I love it–I have the same bar i think its great butTHE BEST THING YOU SHOWED aside from how to assist in helping to do pullups was showing the inverted row!!! great I needed a way to be able to do that fantastic.
Love the inverted row, have been racking my brain on how to best work those muscles at home. Thank you!
Hello, nice blog, just been searching a couple of blogs and yours appears a interesting site. It’s always nice when you can be amused as well as informed at the same time. Fantastic!
Hi, Thanks a lot for this video. I purchased the Iron Gym like a year ago and it’s been sitting on my room ever since I bought it. I just don’t have the strenght to do a single pull up. I tried to use it the other day to see if I could do at least one but I just hang from the bar trying to get up. It’s so difficult for me.
I’m focusing on losing some weight first and do my weight training to get some strength in my back and arms and see when I will be able to do my first pull up. That day will be exciting!!!
