So far in our goal achievement journey you have become absolutely crystal clear on the goals that you want to achieve and dug really in order to discover the powerful reasons why you MUST achieve your goals.

Without following through with those first two steps you are simply wishing and hoping that you will achieve some obscure and lofty goal and you’ll be relying on willpower to get you through the journey. We don’t want that to happen, so be sure to go through the exercises that “The Achievement Mentor” Tom Terwilliger shared with you in the previous two videos.

Now it’s time to move onto Rule #3, which is to understand exactly where you are at in relation to your goal. This is a very powerful video. You definitely do not want to skip this step…

Knowing exactly where you are at in your goal achievement journey is crucially important. Allow me to use an example of a weight loss goal

Let’s say that you set a goal of losing 100 pounds. What happens if you don’t know where you are at right now? You may have already lost 100 pounds by yo-yo’ing up and down for the past decade. If you lose 2 pounds today but gain 3 pounds tomorrow followed by another 2 pounds of weight loss the following day, have you lost 4 pounds? No… you actually only lost 1.

You need to know exactly where you are on your road map. If you weigh 280 pounds and you want to lose 100 pounds you need to set that goal of weighing 180 pounds.

Taking measurements of your waste, arms, thighs, chest, and hips, as well as body fat percentage is a great measurement of where you are currently at. You may also want to take a photo of yourself so you can see exactly where you are at in your fat loss journey today. Your road map can be a series of pictures that you take once a week to measure your progress. But if you don’t know where you are at today how the heck can you measure your progress and judge whether or not you are moving forward?

Take the time to fully understand exactly where you are at right now. I encourage you to take this a step further and write your current emotions, feelings, and mindset into your journal. Is your self-confidence low? Do you believe that your goal is impossible? Are you upset with yourself for allowing your health to slip away from you? Are you worried that you may die prematurely if you continue along this path? Are you embarrassed to wear a bathing suit? Do you feel unattractive to your spouse or partner?

This may be tough, but it will be one of the most incredible experiences to compare your current feelings and emotions to how you feel once you achieve your goals.

This is way more powerful than simply comparing the numbers on the scale. This is life changing! This is an impact on a much grander scale. So go for it! I promise that once you achieve your goal you will ecstatic that you took the time to go through this step.

It’s time to achieve your goals!!!

PS In Tom’s book the 7 Rules of Achievement he has a great illustration of a road map, which really helped me get clear on where I am at in relation to my goal and the path that I must follow to get to my destination. This was such a tremendous help for me and will be for you as well.
