How many times have you found yourself sitting in front of the television thinking about what kind of food you could quickly grab before the commercial break ends? And how often is the food of choice something that comes from a bag or box? Has a bowl of ice cream, bag of chips, or a few cookies been your snack of choice more often than not? Today you are going to take some steps toward choosing healthier options when these situations arise.

Fat Loss Quickie Nutrition Tip

Fat Loss Quickie

Do you find yourself reaching for junk food out of convenience, boredom, habit, or other emotional reasons. Here’s one simple way that you can set yourself on the path to a healthier lifestyle and eliminating this sabotaging behavior…

Your task for today’s home office fitness challenge is to clean out your cupboards, fridge, and freezer, and take out all the junk. Give it away if you have to. The saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind”. That’s the goal of this challenge. There will be times when junk food will pop into your mind, but now it won’t be convenient to grab it because it’s out of your house.

I don’t want to hear the excuse, “What about my kids and family? They’re not on a diet and they enjoy junk food”

In my opinion it’s this way of thinking that is significantly contributing to the rising obesity rate of today’s children and that makes me sad.

It’s eating that way that causes so many people to gain weight and then have to work their butts off to get back to a healthy weight once again. So why put your kids and spouse through that? There are many tasty and healthy snack and meal options that your family can and will enjoy. I just posted some from my good friend and Registered Dietitian Isabel De Los Rios here: Healthy Snack Options

I’ll be sharing many more healthy meals and snack options in future posts here, so stay tuned.

It’s definitely work to train your kids to eat healthy. We have lucked out with our daughter Noelle. She eats all the fruit and vegetables that we put on her plate. But our son Shayne has been a different story. It’s been a lot of work for Angie and I to train him to eat well. He has a major sweet tooth and can’t stand veggies, but we kept working at it to add more and more healthy foods to his diet.

After several attempts we now have Shayne trained to grab a bowl of blueberries immediately when he comes home from school. He also grabs an apple as a snack throughout the day because they are prominently displayed on our kitchen table and throughout the house. He made me proud when he was looking for a snack at my parents house the other day and he grabbed an apple because they had them out on the table as well.

Shayne used to be a pasta freak, but now he has acquired a taste for chicken and recently fish. It takes persuading and discipline on our part as parents, but it’s all worth it.

Everyone in your family will eventually get used to the change, plus it’s a lot of fun to go out as a family and treat yourselves. We just took a family bike ride to the ice cream shop yesterday and indulged in some sundae’s.

So take some time today to empty your cupboards, fridge, and freezers of junk food. Be sure to let me know when you have a moment when you would have typically reached for junk food, but because it’s not readily available you went for a healthier option instead.

You ROCK! Enjoy the experience,
